cMAS is an interdisciplinary research-creation studio interested in the intersections of art, science, and technology. Through a solid commitment to history, theory, and practice, we explore how old and new technologies have and continue to shape the historical narratives and practices of media arts through a frame informed by feminist theories and research-creation methodologies. Our projects experiment and theorize the implications of working across and can take the shape of an exhibition, a scholarly publication, a public performance, an experimental video, generative artwork, an interactive digital graphic novel, a printed zine, or an artist’s book.

cMAS is directed by Dr. Gabriela Aceves Sepúlveda and shares a space with Dr. Kate Hennessy'sMaking Culture Lab both located in the School of Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University Surrey Campus that occupy the unceded territories of the Semiahmoo, Tsawwassen, Kwantlen, Katzie, the Kwikwetlem (kʷikʷəƛ̓əm), and the Qayqayt First Nations.
